This resort is a little over an hour from Lisbon and definitely worth the trip out of town. When the course architect Cabell Robinson first visited the site for the new course he said, "This is the kind of landscape we architects try to create, but at Praia D'El Rey it's all here, naturally".
The design certainly lived up to the landscape around it and it has won several awards for its quality, especially notable are the 13th and 14th holes which have brilliant sea views over the Atlantic.
The scenery is varied across the course, the holes move from the dunes gently uphill to the forest midway through the round and then down to the dunes again on the back 9.
The course seems to have a wild feeling, although it has all of the normal facilities, nature has not been tamed and is still evident on a grand scale.
