This is the oldest Golf Club in Portugal, established in 1890 by a group of British wine exporters looking for a fun way to pass the time.
The course was redesigned in the 50’s and is not long by today’s standards but the narrow fairways provide plenty of challenging shots. Although previously seen as a poor quality course, the current green keeper José Granja has worked very hard on bringing the course up to standard and the quality of the course is now exceeding that of other local courses.
Some people compare the course to some Scottish links courses with the benefit that the climate is somewhat more favourable for an enjoyable round in Porto.
The area is worth visiting all year round but especially in Skeffington Cup week. The Skeffington Cup is one of the oldest golfing competitions in the world and has been played annually without interruption since 1891.
